New Deluxe Hair Cutting Saloon

If you walk down Lit Road in the Ramnagar area of Nagpur, you’ll find us near the Shiv Mandir. New Deluxe Hair Cutting Saloon has been a part of this neighborhood for a long time. You can often hear the bells from the temple while we are working inside. It’s a traditional kind of hair cutting shop. We don’t have those fancy revolving signs or neon lights. It’s just 194 Lit Road, a place where men come to get their hair cut and maybe a quick shave before work or on a Sunday morning. The chairs are the old-fashioned heavy ones that stay put. We’ve got a couple of fans to keep the Nagpur heat away, though it’s always a battle in the summer months. The shop floor is usually covered in bits of hair until we get a second to sweep it up. We talk to the guys about the neighborhood and what’s happening at the temple. It’s a small space, so you get to know people pretty well. There is a certain smell to the place, a mix of aftershave and hair cream that has been there for years. We aren't doing anything revolutionary here. It’s just about giving someone a decent haircut so they look presentable. The mirrors might have a few spots on them and the walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but the work gets done. It’s honest and it’s local, which is how we like to keep it every day.
