Madira Bhavan

Starting at the beginning of Central Avenue Road in Nagpur, you will find Madira Bhavan. It is right across from Mayo Hospital, which is a landmark everyone in this part of town knows well. The street is always loud with traffic and people walking by at all hours. We have been here for a good while, just operating out of this simple building. Nagpur gets incredibly hot in the summer, so we spent a lot of time just trying to stay cool inside while getting things ready for the day. Our space isn't something out of a magazine. It has plain walls and the furniture is just there to be used. Most of the people who walk through our doors are either coming from the hospital or they live in the neighborhood. We know the local rickshaw pullers who take their breaks nearby. There isn't any fancy talk about missions or visions here. We just show up every morning, open the doors, and do the work that needs doing. It’s a bit dusty because of the road construction that never seems to end, but that’s just how Nagpur is. We don't have a huge team, just a few of us who know the routine by heart. It’s a living for us and we just keep it moving one day at a time. The regulars seem to like that it hasn't changed much over the years. It's just what it is.
