Kabir Garam Masala

You can find our place in Nagsen Nagar. We are situated very close to the Panchvati Tower, which most people in this area know well. We are in the business of making garam masala. It is a small operation that we run out of a few rooms. My name is Kabir, and I have been working with spices since I was a young man. We don’t have a big factory or a lot of workers. We just have a couple of sturdy grinding machines that have been with us for a long time. The smell of the spices is very strong here, especially the black pepper and the cloves. Sometimes it makes us sneeze, but we have gotten used to it over the years. We spend a lot of time cleaning the whole spices by hand before they go into the grinder. It is a slow process, but it is the only way to do it right. Nagsen Nagar is a quiet neighborhood for the most part, but we have our regular visitors who come to buy their monthly supply. We don’t do any advertising or have a big sign outside. We just put the masala in plain bags and seal them up. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, and we have to sit outside and wait for it to come back on. It is just a normal, small-scale business. We do our work and we go home.
