Aartu Engineering Company

Aartu Engineering Company is located at Plot No. 470 on Vishwakarma Marg. It is a busy street, especially with Chabadar School right nearby. You have to be careful driving around here when the school bell rings because the kids are everywhere. We are right in the Nehru Nagar area, near Ambedkar Road. The workshop is full of the usual engineering stuff like lathes, drill presses, and heaps of metal shavings. It’s not the cleanest place in the world, but it’s a working shop where things actually get made. The air always smells a bit like machine oil and burnt metal. We’ve been at this spot for years and the neighborhood has changed a lot around us. Some of the older buildings are being knocked down for new apartments. Our shop stays the same though. We have a small crew and everyone knows their job. We don’t have much in the way of a front office, just a small table where we keep the ledger and the phone. It gets pretty loud when all the machines are running at the same time. We usually have to shout to be heard over the noise. It’s hard work and the days are long, but we’ve got a good routine down now. We just try to keep the machines running and the orders moving. It’s a regular local business with people who have been doing this for a long time. We take our tea breaks together and talk about the football scores.
