Wooden Carving

The shop is located down on H A L Airport Road over in the H S Khan Compound. It is usually pretty noisy around here because of the planes and the traffic moving toward the airport. Wooden Carving has been in this spot for a good bit of time. We are right near the Radha Krishn and the Shani Mandir, so there are always people walking by, especially on the weekends. Inside, there is sawdust on almost everything, no matter how much we try to sweep it up. It smells like fresh timber and polish most of the day. We have our tools scattered on the workbenches and a few half-finished pieces sitting in the corners. It is not a showroom style place. It is a real workshop where we actually do the cutting and the shaping by hand. The light isn't the best in the back of the compound, so we have these bright lamps over the benches. We spend a lot of time just looking at the grain of the wood and deciding where to start. Sometimes neighbors from the compound pop in just to see what we are making that day. It gets hot in the afternoons, but we have a couple of old fans that keep the air moving a bit. We just focus on the task in front of us. It is simple work but it takes time to get it right. That is just how we do things here. The street is always busy, but we stay focused.
