We’ve got our little spot for Wood Peeker Furniture at number four in Dahisar, near Crawford Market. It’s a bit of a crowded area, but that’s where all the action is. Most days you’ll find us surrounded by bits of wood, saws, and the smell of varnish that never really leaves your clothes. We don't have a big polished storefront with bright window displays. Instead, it’s more of a workshop where things actually get made and fixed. There is usually sawdust on the floor and a half-finished chair or a table frame sitting in the middle of the room. We spend a lot of time measuring things twice and cutting them once, or at least trying to. People come in with sketches on scraps of paper or just an idea of what they want their cupboard to look like. It’s loud sometimes when the machines are going, and we have to shout a bit to be heard over the noise. It’s honest work, getting your hands dirty and making something solid that people can actually use in their homes. We’ve been at this address for a while, and the locals know where to find us when they need a repair or something new. It’s just a regular furniture shop, nothing too special to look at from the outside, but we put the hours in and keep the wood moving. Anyway, that’s just what we do every day.
