Wood Arts is tucked away at 52 Malad West in a place called Dattatrey Niwas. It’s a typical Malad building, nothing too flashy on the outside. Inside, it’s a different story. The whole place smells like fresh cut wood and varnish. We’ve got piles of timber and scraps all over the floor because we’re always in the middle of a project. It’s a bit messy, but that’s how we like it. Working with wood is a dusty business, so there is always a layer of sawdust on the workbenches and the tools. We don't spend money on fancy marketing or a big office. We’d rather just buy better tools or more wood. Our neighbors in Dattatrey Niwas are used to the sound of the saws by now. Sometimes someone will pop their head in just to see what we are making that day. We do a lot of different things, from small repairs to bigger pieces, depending on what people ask for. It’s hard work and it can be tough on the back, but it’s what we know how to do. We don't make big claims about being the best. We just do the work and hope people like what they get. It’s a small shop and we like keeping it that way so we can actually see what’s going out the door. If you want to see what we are up to, you just walk into the building and follow the noise.
