If you have ever been to Cutlery Bazar, you know how crowded it gets. Vikram B Motani is tucked away on the 15th floor of building 3/149. It is quite a climb if the lift is acting up, which happens more often than we would like. The bazar downstairs is always full of people shouting and moving boxes of goods. Up here on the 15th floor, it is a bit quieter, but you can still hear the city humming below. The office is not very big. We have shelves packed with things and a heavy wooden table where Vikram sits. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but they have character. We have been in this spot for years and know all the other traders in the building. It is a very old-school way of doing things. We use a lot of paper and ledgers. The tea comes in small glass cups from the stall at the entrance of the lane. Sometimes the monsoon rains make the windows leak a little bit, so we keep some old rags handy. It is just how life is in this part of town. We don't have fancy carpets or designer lights. It is just a place where work gets done every day between the morning rush and the evening close. Most of our visitors are people we have known for decades who find us in the bazar.
