Our place is at No.89 in the Ashok Raj Building. We are right on S V Road in Goregaon West, which as anyone knows, is a very busy street. There is constant honking and the sound of the local trains nearby. Vijaya Lakshmi Agencies operates out of a space that feels a bit cramped sometimes because of all the stock we keep. We have boxes stacked nearly to the ceiling in some of the back rooms. The Ashok Raj Building is an older structure, so the hallways are a bit narrow and the stairs are well-worn. We spend our days mostly on the phone or writing out bills at the main counter. It can get a bit chaotic when more than two people come in at once because there isn’t much room to stand. We have an old ceiling fan that wobbles a bit, but it keeps the air moving. On S V Road, you really feel the energy of Mumbai. Sometimes the monsoon rains make the entrance a bit slippery, so we have to put down some old sacks to keep people from falling. We don’t have any big signs or bright lights. Most people who come here have been doing business with us for a long time. It’s just a simple agency run by people who know the Goregaon area well. We just show up, do what needs to be done, and deal with the traffic on the way home.
