Down at Plot No. 571 in the Mahim Industrial Estate on Bapat Marg, you’ll find Varadhasta Plastics. It’s a solid building in a part of town that has always been about making things. Inside, the machines are the main focus. They run for most of the day, and you can smell the materials we work with as soon as you step inside. It’s not a quiet place. We have a small crew of people who have been here a long time. We know the machines and we know how to handle the plastic. Sometimes things break down and we have to spend the afternoon fixing a motor or cleaning out a mold. That’s just part of the job. Mahim is a busy area, and being in the industrial estate means we have plenty of neighbors doing similar work. We share the road with delivery vans and other workers. The office part of the building is small and mostly used for keeping records and having lunch. We don't spend much time on decorations. It’s about the product and getting it out the door. We see the same delivery drivers every week. It’s a routine that works for us. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing. It’s a bit dusty and loud, but it’s our place and we’re used to it. We keep a stash of spare parts in the corner just in case. The sun hits the front windows hard in the afternoon, so we keep the blinds pulled. It is honest work.
