Swagat Furniture is located at H/4 in Bhandup West, which is right near the railway crossing. If you’ve ever been stuck waiting for the trains to pass, you’ve probably seen our workshop. It’s a noisy place because of the trains and the saws, but we don't mind it much. We’ve been making furniture here for a long time. The shop is full of the smell of cut wood and sawdust. We have stacks of plywood and timber leaning against the walls, and there’s usually a half-finished cupboard or a bed frame sitting in the middle of the floor. It’s not a fancy showroom with bright lights. Most of our pieces are made to order for people living in Bhandup or the nearby areas. We have a few guys who work on the wood all day, and I usually handle the customers who come in to ask about prices or show us a design they like. Our hands are usually a bit dusty and we wear simple clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. Sometimes the rain makes it hard to move the finished furniture out, so we have to wait for a clear sky. We don't have a big catalog or a website. We just show people what we are working on right then. It’s hard work, but there’s something good about seeing a pile of wood turn into something people can use in their homes.
