We’re tucked away on the third floor of Lad Nivas. It’s at 26 Charni Road, right on Dadi Street. This part of town has a lot of history and you can feel it in the building. Sunila Indravadan Dalal has kept this place going through all sorts of changes in the city. The stairs up to the third floor are a bit of a climb, but it’s good exercise for everyone. The rooms have high ceilings like those old Mumbai apartments. We haven't changed much about the place over the years. It’s filled with old furniture and plenty of books and papers stacked on the shelves. Dadi Street is usually quite narrow and packed with people. It’s a very traditional area. We like it that way. It’s not like those new glass towers they’re building elsewhere. Here, you know the person selling snacks downstairs and the guy who delivers the mail. Our work is pretty routine. We come in, check the messages, and get to it. There’s no big mission statement on the wall. We just do what needs to be done for the day. It’s a small, family-style operation. People who come to see us usually appreciate that it’s a bit more personal than a big corporate office. We’ve been here a long time and don’t plan on going anywhere else soon. It’s just how we operate. We like the quiet of the third floor above the busy street noise.
