Standard Soap Industries

Our workshop is at G-2 in Gopal House. It’s right on I.B. Patel Road over in Goregaon East. We’ve been in this spot for quite a while now. The space is filled with the equipment we use for making soap. It’s not a high-tech factory. A lot of the work is still done by hand, which takes time. We have racks and racks of soap drying in the back rooms. The smell is quite strong when you first walk in, but you get used to it after a few minutes. We have a couple of guys who handle the mixing and another who does the cutting. It’s a simple process but it requires attention. We aren't trying to change the world, just making a decent product for the local market. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we’d rather spend the money on better supplies. We handle the orders as they come in and pack them up right here on the table. Sometimes the traffic on I.B. Patel Road is a nightmare, so we try to get our deliveries out early in the morning. It’s an honest day's work for all of us. We just keep our heads down and focus on the batches we’re making each week. We don't have a lot of visitors, but we keep things ready just in case.
