Spellbound Kids Bookstore

We are up on the first floor of the Juhu Supreme Shopping Center, shop number 35. Spellbound Kids Bookstore is a bit cramped because we have so many books squeezed onto the shelves. It’s on 9th Gulmohar Road, right across from Criticare Hospital in the Vele Pale Development Scheme area. I spend half my day tidying up because kids come in and pull everything down, but that’s fine. It means they’re actually looking at the pages. The air conditioner is a bit old and makes a humming noise, but it keeps the place cool enough. I usually have a stack of new arrivals sitting on the floor because I haven’t had time to price them yet. It isn’t a fancy boutique or anything. It’s just a place where there are lots of stories. Sometimes parents come in and we just chat about which books their kids actually like versus the ones they’re supposed to like. The shopping center gets busy on weekends, but during the week it’s mostly just us and the quiet. I like the smell of the paper. We don’t have a big staff, usually just me or my sister behind the counter. We’ve been here a while now and we know most of the families who live around Gulmohar Road. It’s a nice little spot even if the stairs are a bit steep for some people. We just enjoy being surrounded by books every day.
