Our shop is Siddhivinayak Apparel. We are tucked away in Road No. 12, right at Shop No. 9 in Hanuman Chawl. It’s a tight space in Jawahar Nagar, but it’s ours. We’ve been in the Khar East and Santacruz West area for quite some time now. You can find us near the Bomiya Temple. If you know the lanes around Khotwadi or Kherwadi-Bandra East, you won’t get lost. It’s a busy market area. People are always walking by at all hours. We opened up because we knew about clothes and wanted to stay local. The shop isn't huge. We have shelves piled high and things can get a bit messy during the busy hours. My brother and I usually run the place together. We talk to the regulars who have been coming since we first opened our doors. Sometimes the rain gets really heavy in Mumbai and the street floods a bit, but we stay open regardless. We don't do any fancy advertising. Most people find us by word of mouth or just by walking past on their way to the temple. We handle the stitching and the orders ourselves. It’s a lot of manual work and long hours. We don't have a big corporate office, just the shop floor and a small back room for tea. It’s how we’ve always done it. We know the neighbors and they know us. Jawahar Nagar is a good place to be if you like being in the middle of everything. We just keep sewing.
