Shree Rain Tarpaulin Industries is located on the 1st floor at number 3 in Mulund. It is a bit of a climb up the stairs, especially when we are moving heavy rolls of material around. The air inside usually smells like heavy canvas and plastic because that is what we deal with all day long. When the monsoon season is getting close, the place gets incredibly busy. People come in looking for covers for their trucks or for their rooftops to keep the water out. We spend a lot of time measuring out big sheets of tarpaulin on the floor and cutting them to size. It takes a lot of space to spread everything out, so the office can feel a bit cramped sometimes. We have some old sewing machines that make a lot of noise when they are running, but they get the job done. The windows look out over the street in Mulund, and you can hear the traffic and the vendors shouting all day. It’s a practical kind of job. We don’t have any fancy showroom or anything like that. People just come up to the first floor, tell us what size they need, and we see what we can do for them. Sometimes the thread snaps or a needle breaks, and we have to stop and fix it, which is just part of the routine. It is honest work, and we just keep the machines running to meet the demand.
