The office is down on the ground floor of Zarin Manzil, which is right in the CP Tank area of Mazgaon. It’s one of those older buildings where the walls are thick and the rooms stay a bit cooler, though we still need the fans going all day. 107/109 is basically where we spend all our time. Most days are spent sitting at the big wooden desks, checking through ledgers or answering the phone. It’s not a quiet place because Mazgaon is always moving. You can hear the bikes and the trucks going past all the time. Sometimes the rain leaks in a bit near the front door during monsoon, but we’ve got a system for that now. We don’t really do much in the way of decorating; it’s mostly just shelves full of old records and the stuff we need for work. People stop by because they know where we are, and we usually have a chat while things get sorted out. It’s a practical setup. We’ve got a small corner for making tea, and that’s about as fancy as it gets. Living and working around here means you know the local shops and where to get a quick lunch. It’s a lot of work, and some days are longer than others, but that’s just how it goes at the shop. We keep things simple and just try to stay on top of the orders without making too much of a fuss.
