S. A. Cement Works

You can find us near the Fountain Hotel on the National Highway. It’s right by the Versova Village area in Ghodbunder. Being so close to the highway means there’s always a lot of dust and noise from the heavy trucks going past all day. We deal with cement and construction materials, so things are never exactly clean around here. We’ve got stacks of bags everywhere and the ground is mostly covered in grey powder. It’s a tough business because the weather affects everything we do. If it rains too hard, we have to scramble to cover the stock with plastic sheets. The guys working here are used to the heavy lifting, but it’s tiring work in the afternoon heat. We don't have a fancy office, just a small cabin with a metal desk where we keep the ledgers and handle the phone calls. Most of our customers are local builders or people trying to fix up their own homes. We don't do much talking, mostly just loading and unloading. Sometimes the traffic on the bridge makes deliveries a total nightmare, and we have to explain to customers why we’re running late. It’s a straightforward operation. We sell what’s in stock and order more when it runs low. There’s a Jain Mandir nearby, so it’s a bit quieter in that direction, but the highway side is always humming. We’ve been here a while now, just part of the local landscape along the road.
