Satya Mobile Centre

I sit at the shop on Dharavi Bandra Link Road 8c most days. It is a small place and the shelves are usually crowded with all sorts of things like charging cables and plastic phone cases. Outside, the traffic is always moving toward Bandra and it gets quite noisy in the afternoons. I started Satya Mobile Centre because there were always people nearby needing a hand with their gadgets. Most of the time, I’m just hunched over a desk with a small screwdriver. Sometimes the lights flicker when the power is acting up, but we just keep working. We have a small stool for people to sit on while they wait for their phones to get fixed. It isn’t the fanciest spot on the road, but it’s been here a while. We keep a ledger to write down everything that comes in. My hands are usually a bit stained from the glue or the dust from the electronics. There is a tea stall just a few steps away and the smell of ginger tea usually drifts in around four o’clock. Most of the people who come in are from the local neighborhood and they know us by name. We don't have much space, so we have to stay organized or we lose track of the tiny screws. It’s a busy life but it keeps us going. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint eventually, but for now, they hold up just fine.
