Sagar Upholstery Works

Sagar Upholstery Works is found at 2, 43/45, on the ground floor of the Shree Ganes building in Kalbadevi. If you have ever been to Kalbadevi, you know how packed the streets are. It is one of the oldest parts of Mumbai. Our shop is full of the tools of our trade. There are rolls of different fabrics, pieces of foam, and various types of wood scattered around. It isn't a clean or tidy place. There is usually some sawdust on the floor and a lot of scraps. We have been working in this same spot for many years. We take pride in what we do with our hands. We don't use many machines. It is mostly manual labor. The shop is on the ground floor, so it stays a bit cooler than the upper levels, but it can still get stuffy. We often have the radio playing in the background while we work. People from the building often stop by just to say hello. We don't have a showroom where you can sit on fancy furniture. You just see the pieces we are currently repairing or making. It’s a very honest way to make a living. We don't have any fancy brochures. We just show people what we are working on. Kalbadevi is a tough place to work because of the crowds, but it is our home. We don't plan on moving anywhere else. We just keep fixing things one by one.
