S Dayal & Sons J Umashankar & Co

The name is a bit of a mouthful, combining S Dayal & Sons with J Umashankar & Co. We are situated at 63/69 Nagdevi within the Vishnu Park Society area on Puna Kumbharia Road. Our spot is up on the 4th floor, which can be a real pain when the lift is acting up, which happens more often than we’d like. Downstairs, the street is always packed with people moving goods and carts rattling over the uneven pavement. It’s a noisy part of the city, but you get used to it after the first few months. The office itself is filled with old ledgers and boxes that we probably should have cleared out years ago. We deal with a lot of different people coming in and out every day. Some are regular faces we’ve known for decades, while others are just passing through the neighborhood. We don’t really do anything fancy here. There are a few desks, some old ceiling fans that click while they spin, and a small area where we keep the kettle. It’s a family-run kind of vibe, and things can get a bit disorganized when we’re busy. We usually spend the mornings sorting through orders and the afternoons catching up on paperwork. The light coming through the windows in the evening is actually quite nice, even if the view is just more rooftops and power lines. We just keep at it day by day.
