Toy Mall

Toy Mall is located right in the middle of the chaos at 209 Shariff Devji Street. Most people call this area Chakla. It is in Masjid Bandar West, which is always packed with people and handcarts moving through the narrow lanes. Our place is usually overflowing with cartons. Sometimes you can barely see the floor because we have so much stuff coming in from the docks. It is a loud place to work, but we are used to the shouting of the loaders and the honking of the trucks outside. We open up early and stay late most nights. The building is old, like most things around here, and the stairs are a bit narrow. We spend the day checking lists and moving boxes around. It is not a mall like the ones with air conditioning and fancy elevators. It is a hardworking place where we deal with toys in bulk. The air is always heavy with the smell of cardboard and city dust. We keep a big water cooler in the corner because it gets very hot in the afternoons. Sometimes we share a quick meal at the desk while the phone keeps ringing. It is just the way business happens in this part of Mumbai. We don't try to make it look like something it isn't. You just have to come in and see the madness for yourself.
