You can find Rubako Plastic Works at B-16 on Mascarenhas Road in Mazgaon. It’s an older building in a part of the city that has a lot of history. The workshop is on the ground floor and we do a lot of plastic fabrication and custom work. The machines have been here since I started, and they require a lot of oiling and maintenance to keep them running smooth. It’s a bit dark inside, even with the lights on, so we usually leave the big front doors wide open. This lets in the sounds of the street and the occasional breeze. Mazgaon is a bit quieter than the rest of Mumbai, which I appreciate. We have a small corner with a few chairs where we sit and talk to clients about what they need. There is no air conditioning, just a couple of big ceiling fans that spin all day. The walls are covered in old sketches and notes we’ve made over the years. We have a routine that hasn't changed much in a decade. I start the machines early, check the materials, and get to work. It’s a hands-on job and I usually end the day with some grease or plastic dust on my clothes. It’s just how it is. We are a small team and we just keep the work going day after day. Sometimes we stay late when a big order comes in, but we usually try to finish by sunset.
