Lower Parel 2 is a busy spot to have a business. We are situated right opposite the Marudhar Hotel. If you’ve been to this part of Mumbai, you know how the streets are. Rennault Bearing & Tools & Co is where we keep a lot of hardware and specialized tools. The shop feels like a bit of a maze sometimes because we have so many different sizes of bearings. Every drawer is labeled, but you still have to know exactly where to look. It’s a lot of manual work, pulling out heavy boxes and showing people the different types of metal bits. We spend a lot of time on our feet. The Marudhar Hotel is a good spot for a quick tea break when things get a bit slow, though it’s rarely slow for long. There is always a delivery truck or a customer looking for a specific tool that nobody else seems to have. We aren't big on fancy displays. We just have the items on the shelves where they belong. The smell of oil and metal is pretty much always in the air. It’s an old-school way of doing things, but it works for us. We just focus on the inventory and making sure we can find what’s needed when someone asks. It’s a simple life in a very crowded neighborhood where people are always working on something.
