R K Furnitures is over in the Jyoti Studio Compound on Grant Road. We’re in section C-1, right near Pandurang Ali and not far from Avsar Hall. If you walk into the compound, you’ll probably hear the sawing before you see our sign. Our shop is full of wood dust, even though we try to sweep it out every evening. It gets into everything, but that’s the nature of making things by hand. We’ve got slabs of timber leaning against the walls and tools scattered across the workbenches. It’s not a fancy showroom with spotlights; it’s a workshop where we actually build things. Some days the humidity makes the wood swell, or the delivery truck gets stuck in the narrow lane near Grant Road, but we deal with it. We’ve been in this compound for a while now, and we know the other business owners nearby. There’s a certain way the light hits the floor in the afternoon that makes the wood grain stand out. We don't spend much time on fancy talk. We just measure, cut, and sand until the piece is right. Sometimes our hands are covered in glue or varnish, and our clothes are always stained with something. People come to us because they know where we are, tucked back in the compound. It’s a bit of a walk from the main road, but we like the space we have here. We just keep working until the light fades.
