You can find Parmars Furniture at 260/5 on Mahalaxmi Street-2, over by Atam Park. We’re in the Mahatma Cottage area, quite close to Kasturba Hospital. Our place is full of wood, tools, and pieces of furniture in various stages of being finished. It’s a workshop first and foremost. There is always the smell of sawdust and varnish in the air, which we’ve grown to love over the years. We make things for people's homes—tables, chairs, cupboards, that sort of thing. It’s hard work on your hands and back, but it’s satisfying to see a finished piece of furniture. We aren't a big factory; it’s just a small group of us working with our hands. Sometimes the floor is covered in wood shavings, but that’s just part of the process. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights. Most people come by the workshop to see what we’re doing or to talk about what they need. Being near the hospital makes it easy for folks to give directions to our place. We’ve been on Mahalaxmi Street for a long time and have seen the neighborhood grow and change. We just keep our heads down and keep building. We use traditional methods mostly because that’s what we know best. It’s not about being the fastest, just about making sure things are sturdy enough to last a long time in someone’s house. It is simple work but we like it.
