Dadar is one of those places that never really stops, and being on Road No 3 near Shivaji Park puts us right in the middle of it. Shankar Niwas is an old building, the kind with thick walls and high ceilings. Our spot is 7 117. You can hear the sounds of the cricket games from the park if the wind is blowing the right way. We have been here for a long time, and the building has that old Mumbai smell of sea air and stone. It is not like the new offices in the suburbs. Here, we have wooden cupboards that have been here since before we started. We do our network work from this small corner of Dadar West. It’s convenient because the station isn't too far, though the walk in the rain can be a mess. We don't have fancy lights or a lounge area. It is just desks, chairs, and a lot of cables. Most of our day is spent looking at data and making sure the systems are behaving. Sometimes the power goes out for a second, and we all have to wait for the backup to kick in. It’s just how it is in an older part of the city. We know the local vada pav guy and the man who delivers the mail. It is a very normal way to spend a workday in Mumbai.
