P G & Co has been over here at 121 Kalbadevi for as long as I can remember. This part of Mumbai is always a bit of a nightmare to navigate with all the handcarts and people carrying big bundles of cloth on their heads. Our office is in an old building with those steep wooden stairs that creak every time you take a step. It smells like old paper and tea in here most of the time. We don't have any of those modern glass partitions or fancy furniture you see in the new parts of the city. Just some heavy wooden desks and a lot of steel cupboards filled with files. Sometimes the pigeons get in through the windows, and we have to shoo them out before they make a mess. It’s a noisy place to work because the street noise never really stops until very late at night. We know the neighbors well, and we usually end up talking about the market or the weather while we wait for deliveries. Nothing happens very fast here, but that’s just the way Kalbadevi works. We don't really use any fancy computers for everything; a lot of things are still done the old way with a pen and a notebook. It’s just a solid, old-fashioned place where we show up every morning and do our bit until it’s time to lock up and head home to rest.
