Om Agri Trade

If you find yourself in the Fort area of Mumbai, you might see Jain House. That is where Om Agri Trade is based. We are on the 41/43 floor on Police Court Lane. It’s a narrow street and it always feels like something is happening right outside the door. The building is old, like most things in this part of town, with high ceilings and thick walls. We trade in agricultural products. It’s mostly about watching the prices and talking to suppliers on the phone. The office is small and usually filled with stacks of files. We have a few computers that are always humming. You can hear the city sounds coming through the windows, which are usually open to let in a bit of a breeze. It’s not the quietest place to work but we are used to the noise. Sometimes the monsoon rain makes the lane outside quite muddy. We spend our days on the phone or writing down numbers in our ledgers. It’s a lot of back and forth with people across the country. We don't have a marketing team or anything like that. It’s just a few of us trying to keep things moving. We know the local porters and the other traders in the building. It feels like a small community inside a very big city. We get our tea from the same guy every single morning. It’s a routine that works for us. We just keep track of the crops and make sure the trades go through.
