Natraj Plastics is tucked away in Masjid Bunder West, on Nanjappa Road inside the Matha Pithru Krupa building. If you know Masjid Bunder, you know how packed the streets are. It’s a constant stream of carts, trucks, and people carrying heavy loads. Our shop is full of plastic items of every kind you can imagine. We have buckets stacked to the ceiling, crates in every color, and rolls of plastic sheeting tucked into the corners. It’s a bit of a maze in here, and honestly, sometimes even I forget where we put certain items. The air is always a bit dusty, and it gets quite hot in the afternoons, but we have a big old metal fan that does its best. We deal with a lot of wholesale buyers who come in from all over the city to stock up their own small stores. Dealing with the deliveries is the hardest part, trying to get the goods in and out of the narrow road without getting in everyone’s way. We’ve been here for years, and the building has that old Mumbai character with its steep stairs and narrow hallways. It’s a noisy, sweaty, and busy place to work, but it feels like home to us. We just keep our heads down, count the inventory, and make sure the orders are ready on time. It’s honest work in a part of town that never really sleeps.
