Mahim 6 isn't exactly the quietest place to work, but it’s been home for National Electronics for a long time. The shop is quite small and the air usually smells a bit like hot metal and solder. We’ve got stacks of old components in the back that have been sitting there for years. Someone might come in with an old radio that stopped working or a ceiling fan that’s making a weird clicking sound. We take a look and see what’s what. Most of our days are spent sitting at the workbench with a magnifying glass and a light. It’s not very glamorous work. The street outside is always busy, and sometimes the noise from the traffic makes it hard to hear much else. We’ve lived with the same squeaky front door for a long time now. It’s just how the place is. There’s no big fancy sign outside, just the one we’ve had since we first started up. Most people find us because they live nearby or someone told them we could fix things. We don't use a computer for every single thing; there are still plenty of paper notes clipped to things that need fixing. The tea is always a bit too sweet from the stall down the road, but we drink it anyway. It’s a routine. We open up, clear the dust off the counter, and start on whatever was left over from yesterday. It’s a lot of manual labor and squinting at small wires.
