National Book Depot

National Book Depot is tucked away over on Raikot Road in Kalbadevi, specifically near Mullanpur Dakha 78. If you’ve ever been to this area, you know how packed the streets can get with people and carts moving everywhere. Our shop is full of books, probably too many for the space we have. There are stacks on the floor and shelves that reach all the way to the ceiling. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes, but we usually know where everything is. We get a lot of students coming in looking for textbooks, and older folks searching for something specific they remember from years ago. My father ran this place before me, and not much has changed since then. We don’t have a computer system to track everything; we just remember where things are or we look through the stacks until we find it. It’s a quiet place compared to the street outside, though the dust can get to you after a while. We aren't a big fancy library. We're just a bookstore where you can find what you need if you have a bit of patience. Sometimes we just sit and drink tea while waiting for the next customer to walk in. It’s a steady kind of life. We don’t bother with much else besides the books and the people who read them. Every day is pretty much the same, and we like it that way.
