Nandi Engineering Works

We set up Nandi Engineering Works here in Bandra West a long time ago. The shop is in Jaffer Baba Chs, and if you live around here, you probably know the street. It’s always a bit noisy because of the machines running, but that is just how an engineering place works. Most days start early with a cup of tea and checking what needs fixing from the day before. We deal with all sorts of metal jobs. Some people bring in small things from their homes, and other times it is bigger parts for local workshops. There is no air conditioning, just the big ceiling fans that struggle when it gets really hot in April. We have piles of scrap in the corner and tools that have been used for years. It isn’t a fancy place with a lobby or anything like that. You just walk in and talk to whoever is not busy with a lathe. Sometimes we have to wait for materials to arrive, which can be frustrating, but that is just part of the business. My brother and I handle most of the daily stuff. We don't spend much time on computers. Most of our notes are written on scraps of paper or on the wall near the phone. It is a simple life and we have stayed in this same spot while the rest of Bandra changed around us. We just keep our heads down and do the work that comes in.
