Mittal Mill Store

Mittal Mill Store is located at number 4, Mandlik Road in Colaba. It’s a small shop in a very famous part of Mumbai. The 400039 area is known for many things, but we are just a simple store selling mill supplies and hardware. The space is tight, with shelves going all the way up to the ceiling. We have bins full of bolts, nuts, and various metal parts. Sometimes it’s hard to move around if there are more than two or three people inside. The counter is made of heavy wood and has been worn smooth over the years. We spend our day looking up parts in old catalogs or weighing out items for customers. The street outside is always full of tourists and locals heading toward the Gateway or the Taj, but we just focus on the people coming in for tools. The air is often humid, and we have a small fan that doesn't do much but keep the air moving a little. We don't have any fancy displays. The items are just there in their boxes or sitting on the counter. It’s a dusty business, but we like the routine. We open the shutters early and close them when the sun goes down. The floor is uneven in places because the building is so old. We have a small stool behind the counter where we sit when there are no customers. Most of our stock comes from local suppliers who have been working with us for decades. We use a lot of brown paper to wrap up the smaller items. Sometimes the street noise from Mandlik Road is so loud we have to shout to be heard. We don't mind. It's just part of being in Colaba. We keep a ledger for our regular accounts, writing everything down by hand.
