I am Mukesh Soni and I run my business out of the first floor of the Gheewala Building in Ghatkopar East. It is a residential and commercial mix so there is always a lot of movement on the stairs. I have been in this building for a long time and I know most of the families who live upstairs. My space is small and I usually work by myself or with one helper. I deal with jewelry and small repairs mostly. People bring in their gold chains that have snapped or rings that don't fit anymore. It is delicate work and my eyes get tired from looking through the magnifying glass all afternoon. The Gheewala Building is easy to spot once you are in Ghatkopar East because it has a distinct look to it compared to the newer towers. I keep my tools organized on a wooden bench and there is a safe in the corner for the more expensive items. Sometimes customers just stop by to say hello or ask for a bit of advice on a gift they are planning to buy. I don't have a big storefront with glass windows I just have my workshop where the real work happens. It is quiet in here compared to the street noise outside and that helps me stay focused on the small details of the metal.
