M Jadav Ji

You can find us at 36 Masjid Bunder West on Nagdevi Cross Lane. If you have ever been to this part of the city, you know how crowded it gets. The lane is very narrow and full of people carrying heavy loads on their shoulders. Our shop, M Jadav Ji, is right in the middle of it all. We have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. We have to use a tall ladder to reach the stuff at the top and it is always a bit shaky. We sell hardware and various metal items. It is a very old-school way of doing things. We don't have a computer system to track the stock. We just know what we have by looking at the bins. It’s a bit dusty and the air is always thick with the sound of the market. We have been in this spot for a long time. My father was here before me. We know all the other shopkeepers on the lane and we often share tea in the afternoons. It’s a tight community. People come from all over to find specific tools here because Nagdevi is famous for that. We don't have any fancy displays or lights. Just the goods in their boxes. It’s a lot of work to keep things moving in such a small space but we are used to it by now. It’s just our daily life.
