Living Wood

We have been running things at Shop No 1 in Gokuldham for quite a long time now. The shop is right on the Aundh Wakad Road, which is always busy with people heading toward Filmcity in Goregaon East. Across the street, you can see the Riddhi Gardens. Most of our days are spent working with timber and building pieces for people’s houses. It isn't a very large space, so things can get a bit cramped when we have a lot of wood delivered. Sawdust usually covers everything by the afternoon, no matter how much we sweep. It’s just the nature of the work. We use simple tools and do a lot of the finishing by hand. People often stop by just to ask about a broken chair or a new cabinet they want made. We don't have a fancy showroom with lights and stuff. It’s just a workshop where we get things done. Sometimes we sit on the stools outside and watch the traffic go by when we take a break. The weather gets pretty humid here, which affects how the wood behaves, so we have to be careful. We know most of the other shopkeepers around Gokuldham. It’s a good neighborhood to be in. We’ve seen many businesses come and go, but we just keep at it. We like the smell of fresh cut wood and the sound of the saws. It’s just a normal life for us here.
