If you’re walking down Dr. Ambedkar Marg in Lal Baug, you’ll find us in the Phanse Building on the second floor. It’s room number 39/a, right above the Sahyadri Co-operative Bank. Actually, the bank sign is so big you’ll probably see it before you see our small door. The stairs up to the second floor are a bit narrow and steep, so you have to watch your step. Once you get inside Aroma Enterprises, you’ll notice the scent immediately—it’s a mix of all sorts of oils and extracts we handle. It’s an old building, so the walls have that aged look and the floors creak a little when you walk around. We spend our days mixing batches and checking the bottles. It’s a lot of sitting and pouring, which requires a steady hand. Being in Lal Baug means there’s always something happening outside, especially during festival seasons when the whole street gets blocked off. We usually just keep the fans going and focus on the orders we have to get out. It’s not a high-tech lab or anything like that, just a traditional workspace with a lot of glass jars and handwritten labels. Most of us have been working here for years, so we’ve got a bit of a family vibe going on, even if we argue about the radio volume sometimes. It’s just our way of doing things.
