We run Deshpande Company Ayurvedic Medicine from a spot in Khan Chawl. It’s right on Station Road in Goregaon West. If you’re looking for us, just find the Vinoda Hotel because we are directly opposite that. Since we are on Station Road, it’s always incredibly busy. There’s a constant stream of people walking to and from the Goregaon station. You can hear the trains and the hawkers all day long. The shop is inside the chawl, so it’s a bit of an older structure. We have been here for a long time. The walls are lined with wooden cabinets where we keep all the ayurvedic medicines. It’s a bit dark inside sometimes, but we have enough lights to see what we’re doing. We spend our time talking to customers and weighing out herbs. It’s a lot of hands-on work. Sometimes the humidity makes the medicine smells really strong in the small space. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just us working behind the counter. We know the other shop owners in Khan Chawl quite well. It’s a tight-knit place despite the crowds outside. We just show up every morning, open the shutters, and start the day. The noise from the street never really stops, but after a while, you just stop noticing it. We’re just a local business doing our part in Goregaon for the folks around here.
