Kunnal Industries

Kunnal Industries is tucked away in Mulund West. We are at shop number six in the Ram Gopal Industrial Estate on Dr R P Road. This estate has been here for ages, and you can see it in the walls and the old gates. It’s a heavy place. There’s always the smell of machine oil and the sound of metal clicking or thudding somewhere nearby. Our shop isn't very large, but we make use of every inch of it. We have heavy shelves bolted to the walls to hold all the parts and tools we need. The floor has some oil stains that won't ever come out, no matter how much we scrub. It’s a place where work actually happens, not a place for sitting around. We have a small desk in the corner for the accounts, but mostly we are on our feet. The traffic on Dr R P Road can be a nightmare in the mornings, so we try to get in early to beat the rush. We have a small radio that plays the local stations, though it’s hard to hear over the noise of the neighboring units sometimes. We’ve been in this estate for a long time and know all the other owners. We help each other out with tools or advice when things break down. It’s a tough environment but it’s our daily reality and we’re used to the noise.
