Kiran Mobile Centre

You can find us in Bhandup 3, right where the main crowd moves through every day. Kiran Mobile Centre started because we saw how everyone was always struggling with their phone screens or needing a quick recharge at the last minute. It’s not a very large shop, but we’ve packed it with all kinds of cables, tempered glass, and those colorful covers that people seem to like so much these days. Most of the time, I’m sitting behind the small counter with a magnifying glass, trying to figure out why a charging port isn't working or why a battery has given up. It’s quiet work in a noisy area. Bhandup is always moving, and you can hear the horns and the people shouting outside all the time. Sometimes we get people coming in from the station, looking for a cheap pair of earphones because they forgot theirs at home. We try to keep a bit of everything so nobody leaves empty-handed. We don't have a fancy website or anything. We just open the shutters at ten and stay until the lights in the street go dim. It’s just me and my cousin usually, swapping stories and fixing what we can. Sometimes we can't fix it, and we just tell the person straight that it’s time for a new one. That honesty seems to bring them back when they eventually do buy a new phone.
