I started Kalpesh Telecom here in Malad West 1 to give the locals a place to get their mobile stuff sorted without having to go to the big malls. It’s a small shop, maybe even a bit cramped if more than three people are inside at once. I spend a lot of my time looking through a magnifying glass at circuit boards or trying to peel off old screen protectors that have bubbled up. The street outside is always noisy with rickshaws and people rushing to the station. Sometimes I forget to take a lunch break because someone comes in with a phone that fell in water and they are in a total panic. I just do what I can with the tools I have. I keep a stack of SIM cards and recharge vouchers behind the counter, though everything is going digital now. The floor is a bit uneven and the fan makes a clicking sound, but it keeps the air moving. My neighbors in the next shops are good people, and we often share tea in the afternoons. I don't have a big marketing plan or a fancy website. I just open the shutter, turn on the lights, and wait for the first person to walk in with a problem I can fix. It's a decent way to make a living and I like being my own boss, even if the hours are long. Most people know me by name, which is nice.
