K. Meenachi Sundaram & Co.

If you are walking through Dharavi, you might find us at Shop Number 15 in Illa Pulla Wadi. We are right there in the N.D. George Policy Compound. It’s a bit of a maze around here, but if you see the Abhiudya Coprative Bank, we are just opposite that. K. Meenachi Sundaram & Co. is a small operation. The space is tight, like most places in this part of Mumbai. We’ve got desks piled with papers and ledgers. It gets quite humid in the afternoons, so we usually have a small fan rattling away in the corner. People come in and out all day long. We know most of the people on the street by name. It’s a loud place with the motorbikes and the people shouting to each other, but we like the energy of it. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us handling the daily tasks. We’ve been here for a while and seen how the neighborhood moves. It’s a lot of hard work and long hours, but that is just life. There’s no air conditioning or fancy carpets here, just a concrete floor and a lot of work to get through before the sun goes down. Sometimes we share tea with the shopkeepers next door. It’s a simple way of living and working. We just stay focused on the books and the people who depend on us to get things right.
