K G N Stores is located right on Lbs Marg 772 in Malad East. If you know this area, you know how busy it gets with the buses and people rushing to the station. I start my day early, usually around seven, to get everything ready before the morning rush starts. There are boxes of goods stacked near the door because we just got a delivery and I haven't had the time to move them yet. The shelves are mostly full but sometimes I forget to order one or two things and then have to explain that to a regular customer. It is a bit cramped inside, especially when three or four people are trying to buy things at once. We’ve been at this spot for a while now. The fan on the ceiling makes a bit of a clicking sound but it keeps the air moving. I know most of the people who walk through that door by their first name. We talk about the weather or how the local trains are running late again. It's not a supermarket where everything is perfectly lined up. Sometimes the labels are crooked or there’s a bit of dust on the top shelf. That’s just life here. My hands are usually a bit dirty from handling the sacks of grain or moving crates around. I don't mind it. It’s honest work and it keeps me busy from morning until late at night. Sometimes the street noise is a lot, but I'm used to it now.
