Jayprakash N Desai

Jayprakash N Desai is the name on the door at B/7 in the Amar Subway Society. We are located in Santacruz West, right by the Mithakhali Six Road. Being near the Milan Subway means we always know when it’s raining too hard because the traffic starts backing up right past our entrance. It’s an older society, very residential and quiet compared to the main roads. Our office is basically a room that we converted so we could have a place to work without the high rents of a commercial tower. It feels more like a home than an office, honestly. There are curtains on the windows and a ceiling fan that wobbles a little bit if you turn it up too high. We have some old wooden cabinets for all the files and a couple of computers that have seen better days. Most of the people who come here are neighbors or people who have known us for twenty years. We don’t do any advertising; we just have our name plate outside. Sometimes the kids from the society play cricket right outside the window and we have to remind them to be careful. It’s a nice way to work, being part of a community like this. We usually close up for a couple of hours in the afternoon for a nap or a long lunch. It’s just how we’ve always done things here in Santacruz and it seems to work for us.
