Jayprakash Mehta

I’m Jayprakash Mehta. You can find me over at 32 Matunga East, specifically at Motilal Mansion. It’s a bit of a trek if you’re coming from the other side of town, but the area is pretty well known around here. The building has been around for a long time, and it has that old Matunga feel to it that you don't find in the newer developments. Sometimes the mail gets a bit mixed up because of the way the address is written, especially with the A/Po Bhare part and Taluka Pirangu being mentioned, but we usually sort it out eventually. It’s a quiet enough place most days, though the sounds of the city are never too far away. I spend a lot of my time sitting at my desk, looking through papers and keeping things organized. People who live in Motilal Mansion are mostly long-term folks, so we all recognize each other in the hallways and nod as we pass by. I don’t go in for anything flashy or modern. My setup is simple and functional. There’s a window that lets in some morning light, but otherwise it’s mostly just shelves and files. It’s a decent place to work from. I’ve grown used to the way the walls look and the specific creak of the floorboards when I walk to the door. Matunga East has its own rhythm, and I’m just one small part of that. I usually close up when it starts getting dark and head home, then I'm back at it again the next morning.
