Jay Ashapura Steel is located at 78/80 Kalbadevi, right where the Soma Talav Char Rasta intersection is. If you have ever been to that part of town, you know it is one of the most hectic spots you can find, with cars and rickshaws coming from every direction. The shop is almost always filled with the loud sound of steel rods clanging together and people having to yell a bit just to be heard over the street noise. It is a pretty dusty environment because of all the metal we move around, and we usually end up with some grease on our clothes before the lunch break even starts. Our office is just a tiny area in the back that we partitioned off to keep the invoices and the computer away from the worst of the grime. It gets very warm in there during the summer months, and the old ceiling fan mostly just moves the hot air around in circles. We have got piles of steel rods and heavy sheets stacked up in every available corner, so you really have to watch your step when you walk through the main floor. Kalbadevi has a very specific kind of energy, and we have been a part of this neighborhood for a long time. There is no fancy decoration on the walls, just bare bricks and some heavy-duty racks for the stock. We spend most of our hours talking to the regulars and suppliers who drop by. The Soma Talav area is always buzzing.
