If you go to the Kandivali Shopping Centre on Old Madras Road, you’ll find us at number 19. Jain Furniture has been in this part of Kandivali West for quite a long time. The shop is filled with the smell of wood and polish. It’s a bit crowded inside because we try to fit as many tables, chairs, and cupboards as we can. Walking through the aisles can be a bit of a squeeze. We spend our days showing people different types of wood and explaining how things are put together. Most of our staff have been here since they were young. We know the regulars who walk by every day. The shopping centre gets very busy on the weekends, so those are our longest days. We don't have a website or anything like that; we just talk to people who come through the door. Sometimes the dust from the street gets on the furniture, so we’re always wiping things down with old rags. It’s a simple business. We get deliveries of new pieces every week and have to move things around to make room. It’s a lot of heavy lifting. We take our breaks in the back room with a bit of tea. The area around Old Madras Road has changed a lot, but we’re still here doing the same thing. It’s steady work and we like being part of the local market. There is something nice about helping someone find a chair that fits their home.
