At Jai Wood Industries, things are usually pretty loud and dusty. We are located at 86 Hasnabad, right in the middle of the Bombay Timber Market. If you walk outside our doors, you are directly opposite the Britannia Biscuit Factory. Sometimes, when the wind blows the right way, you can actually smell the biscuits baking while we are cutting through heavy logs of wood. It is a strange mix of smells, wood dust and sugar. We’ve been part of this timber market for a long time. It’s a rough place to work, honestly. My hands are always covered in splinters or sawdust, and the machines make a lot of noise all day long. We don't have a fancy office or a place for people to sit and drink tea. It’s a working warehouse through and through. We handle all sorts of timber that comes in and goes out to different parts of the city. Most of our days are spent loading and unloading trucks or measuring out planks for whoever needs them. It’s a lot of physical labor, and by the end of the day, I’m usually pretty tired. But it’s the kind of work that feels real. People in the Bombay Timber Market know us, and we know them. We just keep our heads down and get the orders finished as they come in. That is how it goes here, just cutting wood and moving it along.
