Indo Dies has been located in the D' Souza Compound for quite a few years now. If you know Kherani Road in Andheri East, you know it's a very industrial and noisy area. There is always the sound of machines running or heavy trucks moving in the background. Our unit is just one of many small businesses tucked into the compound. It’s a bit dusty and the floors are made of hard concrete, which is standard for a place that makes dies. We have our heavy equipment and lathes set up in the back section. The front part is where we keep the finished pieces and the handwritten logs of what we’ve done during the week. It’s not the kind of place you come for a fancy meeting. We usually have grease on our clothes and the smell of cut metal is always hanging around the air. D’ Souza Compound can feel like a maze if you aren't used to it, but once you find our door, it's easy to remember. We start work early because the heat gets quite bad in Andheri later in the day. Most of our neighbors are also doing some kind of small-scale manufacturing or repairs. We often share a quick tea at the stall on the corner of Kherani Road where we talk about the local news. It’s a tough job sometimes, and the machines break down, but we just fix them and keep going. We don't have a website or anything like that, just this physical shop where the work happens every day without much fuss. It is just about getting the orders done on time.
